The story

What Reclaim is actually about

Reclaim Energy is the unit most installers point at when someone asks what the best heat pump in Australia is. The flagship pairs one outdoor compressor — the EHPE-4550P-A — with a separate glass-lined or stainless steel tank, and it runs CO₂ (R744) instead of a synthetic refrigerant.

The numbers are the reason. 5.24 kW of heat out of 870 W in at 32.6°C ambient — a COP of 6.02, the highest published figure in the country. It delivers 63°C water on the heat pump alone, so there's no resistive backup element quietly chewing power, and it keeps working from -10°C to 43°C with built-in frost and freeze control. At 37 dB(A) it's the quietest thing on our shelf.

Alongside it sits the newer Eco R290 'Energy Freedom' range — an Australian-made all-in-one in 200L and 300L. Heat pump and tank in one body, natural R290 refrigerant, plug-in install, Smart Life app control and a COP of 4.63 on the 300L. It's the sharper-priced way into a Reclaim, it carries 8 years parts and labour on both the tank and the refrigeration circuit, and being locally made it lands at the higher end of the rebate scale.

Between the two: pick the CO₂ split if you want the best efficiency, the quietest running and a 15-year tank, or the Eco R290 all-in-one if you want one tidy unit, an easy install and a budget that behaves.

Why people pick it

Reclaim standouts

COP 6.02 — the highest in Australia

The CO₂ split pulls 5.24 kW of heat from 870 W of power. Nothing else we stock comes close on running cost.

Australian-made Eco R290 all-in-one

200L and 300L, built here, plug-in install and 8 years parts and labour on tank and refrigeration circuit.

Cold-climate king

CO₂ barely blinks at single-digit ambient temps and runs to -10°C — ideal for Ballarat, Bendigo and the ranges.

Quietest on the market

37 dB(A) on the split means you can genuinely put it near a bedroom wall without a second thought.

App control either way

The split runs eight modes off the V2.0 Smart Wi-Fi controller; the Eco R290 runs Eco, Boost, Holiday and Rescue from the Smart Life app or the keypad.

Natural refrigerants only

CO₂ has a GWP of 1 and R290 is in the single digits — both immune to the synthetic refrigerant phase-downs coming down the line.

Straight talk

Who Reclaim suits — and who it doesn't

Good fit if…

  • Cold regional VIC sites
  • Noise-sensitive installs
  • Solar homes chasing self-consumption
  • Households wanting one tidy all-in-one unit
  • Long-term owners chasing the lowest running cost

Field pros

  • COP of 6.02 — 5.24 kW of heat from 870 W of power
  • CO₂ (R744) holds performance in cold weather and has a GWP of 1
  • 37 dB(A) — the quietest unit going around, great near bedrooms
  • No backup element needed: 63°C water on the heat pump alone
  • 15 years on a stainless tank, 10 years parts and labour on the Wi-Fi heat pump

Probably not for you if…

  • Rock-bottom budgets
  • Sites with a two-metre ceiling if you're after the 300L Eco

Field cons

  • Priciest option even after rebates
  • Split install takes a bit more work and a pipe run
  • Service call-outs capped at 2 hours labour and 25 km travel

Reclaim warranty

  • CO₂ split — stainless steel tank: 15 years parts, 5 years labour
  • CO₂ split — glass-lined tank: 10 years parts, 5 years labour
  • Reclaim Wi-Fi heat pump: 10 years parts and labour
  • Eco R290 all-in-one — tank and refrigeration: 8 years parts and labour
  • Eco R290 — other components (sensors, valves, element, anodes): 1 year
  • Valves (850 kPa PTRV, Quickie Kit): 5 years parts and labour
